Pinterest 101: How To Properly Use Pinterest To Drive Traffic To Your Sites

Pinterest is an amazing tool you can use if you want to grow your business, unlike Facebook and Twitter your Pins can drive traffic to your websites for a very long time, depending on the pin it could drive traffic to your site for years. This is all thanks to ''re-pins'', every time someone re-pins your content you get more exposure therefore you continue to get traffic from peoples profiles.

Now let me get to what you need in order to start driving traffic to your sites directly from Pinterest.

1. Pick Your Niche
2. Keyword Research.
3. Build A Pinterest Following
4. Enjoy The Free Traffic

Let's start explaining every point.

Pick Your Niche: If you already know what niche you will target then that's awesome!, if you don't know then you need to select your niche, have in mind that most of Pinterest users are women therefore niches like ''cooking'', ''crafts'', etc., will resonate more with Pinterest users. It doesn't have to be a niche like this but it works the best.

Keyword Research: Go to Google's Keyword Tool and research keywords related to your niche, if the keyword you are researching 30,000+ searches a month, it means that's an awesome keyword for Pinterest. You will be using this keywords in your pins descriptions.

Build A Pinterest Following: Go to Pinterest and using their search tool, search for your keyword, if your keyword is ''crafts'' then type in crafts. The result will look like this.

After you have done this what you must do is click on the ''Pinners'' section, it will show people's profiles that show that keyword in their Pins. Here's an example.

Once you do this select a Profile with the most followers and go to their profile (in this case we'll use Craft Candy for this particular example). Then go to their followers.

Having done this Craft Candy's followers will show up, all you have to do is start following people!, Pinterest has a 200 followers cap a day, so you will only be able to follow 200 profiles/day, Pinterest users usually follow back, about 20-25% of the people you follow, will follow back.

So... What does this mean for you?

Every single follower you get, will be a targeted one, meaning they are interested in what you are offering!. Once you have about 1,000 followers, people will find your profile more easily through searches via Pinterest's search tool and you will get new followers every day without having to follow anyone.

Remember to have a few boards ready with content before you start, that way people will start following back thanks to the value you are providing.
